About Orla McAndrew

Orla McAndrew is an acclaimed Irish chef and event caterer, renowned for her innovative approach to sustainable cuisine. Her passion for cooking was ignited during her childhood, spending cherished moments in the kitchen with her mother and grandmother, particularly enjoying baking bread.

Orla's culinary journey took a transformative turn when she encountered a stranger in a park who was seeking a caterer for her wedding in six weeks. Seizing the opportunity, Orla successfully catered the event for 130 guests, marking the inception of her career in event catering. She has since become Ireland's first zero-waste wedding caterer, dedicated to creating unforgettable dining experiences that are both environmentally responsible and gastronomically delightful.

As a busy working mother of three, Orla understands the challenges of preparing nutritious meals amidst a hectic schedule. This insight led her to author Larder, part of the Blasta Books series, featuring 100 quick and easy recipes designed to help home cooks stock their pantries, fridges, and freezers with essential staples for efficient meal preparation.

Orla's culinary philosophy emphasises the importance of a well-stocked larder, patience, proper seasoning, and cooking with love. She advocates for reducing food waste by encouraging mindful purchasing and utilising all bought ingredients, which not only minimises waste but also saves money.
